World Communications Sunday 2026
As the Church observes World Communications Sunday, Pope Leo XIV has called for a
renewed commitment to communication that remains deeply human in an increasingly
digital world.
In his message, “Preserving Human Voices and Faces”, the Holy Father emphasises that
while technology enables connection, it must never replace authentic encounter. Rather,
communication should uphold the dignity of each person and foster genuine relationships rooted in truth and presence. In this, every Christian is invited to become a witness of Christ, even within the digital space.
This call is quietly taking shape within the parish community — where many serve in
different ways, yet remain united as Many Parts, One Body.
Earlier this year, a parishioner responded to a call for volunteer photographers. What began as a simple decision to serve soon unfolded into something more personal and spiritual.
“Seized by divine inspiration… I responded to a call for volunteer photographers for my
parish.” Having stepped away from church service for some time due to life commitments, he found in this opportunity a gentle return.
“It gave me a chance to reconnect to my religion… it felt like being an altar server all over
again.” Through the act of photographing the liturgy, he began to see familiar moments with renewed depth and attentiveness.
“The awe and wonder of children… faces bathed in candlelight… the reverence on Good
Friday…” These were not merely scenes to be captured, but moments that revealed the sacred at work — moments that allow others to encounter Christ through what is seen.
Reflecting on this experience, he shared:
“Perhaps taking photos is my way of catching lightning in a bottle… a call from the divine.”
His experience reflects a growing understanding within the Church that digital
communications is not merely about producing content, but about facilitating encounter.
Images, videos, and visual storytelling can become bridges that help others see and
experience the sacred. Parish communications teams continue to play a vital role in this mission, supporting liturgy, formation, and community life through various digital platforms. More importantly, they help make visible the life of the Church to those both within and beyond its walls.
In response to this ongoing mission, we invite more volunteers to serve in areas such as:
Photography, Content creation, Mass Projection, Publication, website and social media.
