Catechesis of the
Good Shepherd
“Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.”
Mark 10:13-16
About Our Ministry
The Catechesis of Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Catholic Montessori-based faith formation programme which facilitates the young child’s journey in encountering Jesus, the Good Shepherd. The programme is part of the Catechetical Ministry in St Bernadette Church as well as the Archdiocese’s Office For Catechesis (OFC).
A child’s journey in the Atrium starts the year they turn 4 years old. At a very young age a child is innate with religious capacities to enjoy a relationship with God. Our role is only to illuminate and nourish this indelible personal bond between the child and God.

The Atrium
The Atrium is a carefully planned age-appropriate space, offering rich sensorial experiences that are grounded on the Word and Liturgy (prayers and sacraments) for children.
The Atrium is first and foremost a place of community, prayer and celebration, as opposed to being a teaching classroom. It is a place of meaningful work where every work of the child “spontaneously becomes meditation, contemplation and prayer"; a place where the only Teacher is Christ, the Good Shepherd. Through working with the materials in the Atrium, both the children and adults (catechists) ponder and discover the mystery of great joy and love of the One who knows and calls them by name.
The Atrium in our parish was set up in 2014 by two generous ladies. These sessions are for children aged 3+ to 6 years old, currently held on Saturdays. They will join the mainstream catechism classes when they turn 7 years old.

Want to Be Involved in CGS?
We welcome help in the Atrium. You can support us through:
-
Our weekly setting up and wiping down the Atrium before and after our sessions to maintain a hygienic, safe and well-prepared environment for the little feet and hands who walk and use the materials in the Atrium.
-
Making, repairing and maintenance of our materials that are handmade and susceptible to wear-and-tear.
-
Being an assistant catechist who supports the other catechists and helps with observations during sessions.
-
Being a catechist. Our CGS catechists receive 90+ hours of training. The catechists listen with the child.
