Infant Baptism

Parents: First Teachers of Faith

Parents are their child’s first and best teachers of faith. Raising a child in the
Catholic faith isn’t just a duty — it’s a sacred privilege and a precious gift.
Children come to know God through the love you show, the example you live, and
the faith woven into daily family life.

As parents, you are called to:

  • Pray with your child and nurture faith at home.

  • Bring them for Sunday Mass and faith formation.

  • Guide them through the Sacraments — Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

For baptism, at least one parent must be a practicing Catholic. If not, the parish will
journey with you to support your promise to raise your child in the faith.

Faithful parents raise faithful children.

Godparents: Faith Companions for Life

Godparents share a special calling — to walk with parents in nurturing their godchild’s faith. They promise to pray for, guide, and support the child in their journey with God.

Godparents are called to:

  • Live as a faith example

  • Pray regularly for their godchild

  • Be present and celebrate important faith milestones

To be a Catholic godparent, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old.

  • Be fully initiated and practicing the faith (attending Mass and living it daily).

  • If married, be married into the Catholic Church.

A godparent's faith is a light that helps guide a child to God.
